Let the countdown continue! We're now 12 days away from baby's due date and the anticipation is mounting! I absolutely cannot wait to see what day she'll choose to arrive and to meet her. This last part of pregnancy is still going well. I'm mostly comfortable although yes it has gotten a little harder to get around and do things I could normally do with ease. The weather in AZ has cooled off so while most everyone around me has bundled up in sweats, socks and coats, I am very comfortable sitting outside in the 60 degrees!
Well I thought I'd just have so much time on my hands, sitting around quilting, knitting, reading and walking. On the contrary the past two weeks have been busy busy! Last week after arriving I had my first midwife appointment and got a little tour of the birthing center. I am so happy with the decision to deliver there, everyone is so nice and I feel like we're on the same page with lots of delivery preferences and practices. The next day I went to a breastfeeding class and picked up a few tips that will hopefully make that transition easier. The birth center has a few lactation specialists and while the length of stay after delivery is pretty short, they make sure mom and baby have gotten a good start. Saturday Colleen and I went to the all-day birth class. (just typing this it seems like it was so long ago!) We talked about the stages of labor, both what it's like for you and what is physically happening, as well as delivery and pain management techniques. It was informational and great to be there with Colleen.
And you may have heard . . . Saturday was also a very big day for Dad . . . he was in a skydiving accident which resulted in a very badly broken arm. After so many years of skydiving it was surprising and alarming to get the news but one doesn't need to explain how extremely lucky he is. The break was so bad (3 places in the humerus) and there was so much swelling that they couldn't reset the bone or do surgery yet, so they sent him home. My poor dad had to suffer through 5 days of walking around with a shattered arm in a sling before getting surgery. We've reached the turning point now, surgery is done and he's home from the hospital. It's going to be a long process for recovery including lots of physical therapy.
Last night "the nurses" needed a little break so Aunt Kati relieved us and we went to a magic show to celebrate mom's birthday! It's was a small parlor show with card tricks, metal rings, slight of hand and very enjoyable. Afterward we grabbed dinner at Old Pueblo Grille, one of the stops on my Mac and Cheese tour of Tucson.
Colleen also came over to take some pictures. We had some fun, took some regular shots and also some artsy ones, here's just a sample of what we did (and they haven't really been edited yet).
Today my girlfriends from college, Tracy, Katie and Laura, are coming to visit and tomorrow is the baby shower. I'm looking forward to this weekend and getting to see family and friends.
There's a full moon on Wednesday and apparently more babies are born on full moons than any other time of the month. So if this girl decides to come early, then I suppose that will be the time. Otherwise I'm expecting her to take her time and probably arrive a few days after the due date.
