The Countdown Continues

33 weeks. Holy. Cow. Let's put this in perspective . . . 7 weeks to go!

Last night I had one of those moments . . . as I walked past the mirror in my not-really-fitting-anymore pj's on the way into bed I was caught by the image of my belly. MY belly. That little part of our body that drives us crazy enough to watch every little thing we eat, do a million sit ups and complain every swim-suit season and wish it were flat . . . is anything but flat. And I couldn't love it more. I don't recall when this bump got so big and my silhouette officially changed so dramatically, but even though I've been following it with at least a weekly picture, I still felt surprised.

Since I live in a small town, most people around me have known about the pregnancy for some time. But it has been fun now to have those who didn't know asking when the baby is due. Lots of soon-to-be moms complain about this but since I'm not bombarded with it 24/7 I get to enjoy it. I also am enjoying the belly rubs because again, they're coming from people I know. I wasn't crazy about this at the beginning because people were really just rubbing my stomach but now that the baby has made her presence known, there's actually something to feel.

Ok- it's time to talk about Dance Camp! We had such an awesome weekend; We taught 42 classes in 2.5 days! I only taught a handful of classes myself but I loved being around the kiddos again and even took one of the Middle Eastern (belly dancing) classes. Let me just say, "Ha ha." Seriously, looking at myself trying to wiggle my non-existent hips and waist just induced some belly-laughs. Most of the women in class were moms of students anyway so it was fun to share the silliness of it all.

I also had the opportunity to teach the youngest group, mostly 1st and 2nd graders. Since these kids have regular season dance class earlier in the day, I don't get to teach them, they just know me from backstage at performances. It was a challenge to keep them focused, especially as the weekend went on and they were just completely tuckered out!

My highlight of the weekend came from the intermediate group, made up of 3rd - 6th graders. I was seeing off the younger kids after their very last class and one of the girls runs up to me and says "There's just too many Kathleen's in there!" Thoroughly confused, I say "What do you mean? I'm the only Kathleen!" So together we walk back into the studio and most of the intermediate girls are walking around, giggling, and trying to see who can stick their belly out the furthest. Awwww!!! They all run up to me and I told them that they should all give her rubs and hugs and kisses, which they did, in abundance.

Runner-Up best moment of the weekend: A parent told me at the end of the weekend that her son said his favorite class was the one with "the lady with the big belly." This girl was all smiles at that!!

Continuing the baby news - my reservations to Tucson are booked! And to top it off - I'm going to the ballet! I am officially 36 weeks on September 22 and this is the time that the birth center wants me in Tucson. Well . . . it just so happens that Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle is opening a new show on the 23rd. What's a girl to do?! Realizing that this may be my last live performance for quite some time, on top of the fact that it's also been quite some time since the last one, I figured I was allowed to go. I approached Cousin Rachel with the idea of going to the show together and she was all over it! So Thursday evening I arrive in Seattle, Friday evening we go to the ballet and Sunday I head to Tucson to begin the waiting game.
