June has brought lots more rain, just a little bit of sun and continued advances at crawling. The constant rainy, drizzling days didn't inspire much picture taking, but luckily we have a plethora from those two days of sunshine we got.
We spent both sunny days outside, the first playing in the water at Shmickem's and the second taking a boat ride to Duncan Canal. Colette really enjoyed playing in the water, it's so shallow at this spot that it was cool but not cold. The bigger kids with us spent all afternoon in the water and it helped that it was actually 87 degrees! Seriously, that's unheard of around here! I may have been one of the only people on the island who wasn't complaining that it was too hot . . . in my opinion, we'd finally reached juuust right! Colette kept trying to eat the rocks and just didn't understand why mom kept taking them away. She wasn't bothered by this as there was an endless supply to keep trying.
Day two in Duncan was really just a quick trip to John's cabin to check on things. But with the nice weather it was a good excuse for our first real boat outing and a nap in the warm shade. On the way back in the weather started to change and get very windy so the ride was rather bumpy. We had Colette's car seat onboard which made a nice safe place for her to sit during the rougher ride. And she LOVED it! She was all smiles and giggles with each big bump. No pictures of this because although we knew everything was fine, Mommy was busy being a little nervous.
Colette is making more advances toward crawling but not really getting there yet. She lurches further forward and will get up on one knee by herself but will only get to both knees with help. She also prefers to be on an angle (arms and shoulders higher than hips - pressing up on something, usually us or Boomer) but she seems to get the idea that this is the position she's aiming for. Nick and I can be seen crawling around the house during playtime, trying to convince Colette that crawling is really fun! haha. All this being said, I'm not really bothered that Colette isn't crawling. I know that it will happen one day and from then on my life will be much more challenging.
The most exciting time around our house is any time that involves food. Colette loves food. And she wants all of it. We have a high chair now and it's her favorite seat in the house - because it means food. It is probably also Boomer's favorite seat in the house . . . Her skills are getting pretty good (picking up, chewing and swallowing) and she's developing a preference for certain foods. We haven't really come across any foods that she doesn't like, but if salmon and broccoli are offered at the same time, the salmon disappears right away! And our smart little cookie knows when we've cooked something else and she isn't getting to try it.
