We had a few great days of warm weather and sunshine which we took full advantage of. We headed out the road two days after work, played in the water, walked around and bbq'd dinner.
Two very pasty white kids (yes of course I'm wearing sunscreen). Poor girl is doomed to be fair-skinned and burn easily. With any luck she'll get Nick's skin though, at least he can actually get a tan.
The spot we went to is also a favorite spot of the bears. We didn't see any but we did see many, many tracks and kept our eyes open. Of course Boomer was with us and although he's no bear fighter, just having him around makes it much less likely that a bear will stick around long enough for us to him.
Want to know about an entirely new challenge? ORDERING nursery furniture, sight unseen and trying to get it shipped to an island. If you can believe it, our little town doesn't have much in the way of baby gear. So that means that not only can I not go pick it up on a weekend shopping trip, but I also can't even just browse. Now, I'm pretty good at shopping online and I can usually find some good deals, discount coupons or free shipping specials that will actually apply to Alaska. When you're talking big items, crib, changing table, dresser, rocking chair . . . all bets are off! We've actually lucked out that my bosses (husband and wife at Viking Travel) are going to Seattle next week, picking up a bunch of stuff to remodel their basement, and dropping it off at the freight shipper. They have offered to stop by and pick up items for me if I have them purchased and ready to go. So this week I have spent hours on the phone with Babies R Us and other stores to find out what items they have physically in stock. Has to be in-stock at this point because I don't have enough time to place an order. I won't go into in any further, just share the good news that we found a crib and a glider chair that I think will be great!
And even better news . . . Colleen's trip is officially booked! She will be arriving in Petersburg, Alaska 3 weeks from today!!! Yay. Yay. Yay!!!
Well it might be another early night, I'm drawing blank right now. Lots of love to anyone following along!
